The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the groundbreaking Commission on Social Connection, recognizing loneliness as a critical health concern. 🌟 This commission aims to prioritize social connection and expedite the implementation of solutions in countries of all incomes. 🌐Loneliness affects millions worldwide, impacting mental and physical well-being. By addressing this pressing health threat, the WHO is taking a significant step towards creating a more connected and supportive global community. 🌍🤗At StudentsCare, we understand the power of human connection and the positive impact it can have on individuals' lives. Through our initiatives, we strive to combat loneliness, especially among pediatric patients and older adults, by fostering meaningful relationships. 💙We applaud the WHO for their commitment to tackle loneliness head-on and promote social connection as a vital priority. "The workgroup acknowledges the importance of people’s well-being as a driving force in achieving economic prosperity and thus centers the social determinants of health in their work. The multisector, collaborative approach aims to create a more comprehensive and effective health system, of which the scale and complexity are much bigger than any one organization."Check out this article on Mental Health and Wealth in North Carolina. MDC serves as part of a 26-agency behavioral health community assessment workgroup in Rockingham County, N.C., working to tackle behavioral health challenges heightened by the pandemic, provider shortages, and historic underfunding. Great article highlighting the importance of centering trusted community partners in successful SDOH work. Healthy Opportunities Pilots not only have a community anchor in the Network Leads working in each pilot region but also participating CBOs/ HSOs have an ability through the technology platform to refer into these programs not just receive requests from traditional health partners. It is an ecosystem not just a pitcher and a catcher.Local community organizations and nonprofits identifying and serving individuals is nothing new, they do it better than anyone. However, due to a myriad of issues, these organizations often get left out or left behind when policy innovations scale up. It is critically important in scaling SDOH interventions that the platform can support a rural church food program participating in addition to a larger more sophisticated organization.
